Can my home be searched without a warrant while I am on parole or probation?
When you’re placed on probation, you give up certain rights. Among the rights you give up is your right to have privacy. In other words, your probation officer, law enforcement can search your home, your vehicle, your person, without a warrant. That means that if you’re living with somebody else, that person also loses their right to privacy among common areas. Their private room remains their private room, but your living room, your kitchen, they can be searched even if somebody else is living with you. You’ve surrendered that right.
