The victim hit me first. Can I claim self-defense?

Self-defense is available to people who were accused of domestic violence. You’ll need to speak with your attorney so that we can understand what the circumstances are of the other person striking first.

Was your response in accordance with what happened to you? In other words, if they pushed you, but you hit them with a hammer, that’s not going to be in accordance with what happened to you. If they pushed you, and you pushed them back to get them away from you, that very well could be a great defense. If they hit you, but you pushed them away, that could very well be a great defense.

Talk to your attorney. Let us understand exactly what happened in those circumstances. We’ll use your words, and we can match them up to the evidence at hand to show the court what really happened.
