Can child support be reduced in Florida if I remarry and have more children with my new wife?
In Florida, child support is calculated giving the oldest child the highest priority. There’s what we call a step down that comes into place, and as the oldest child ages out, then child support gets recalculated for the next oldest child, and so on, and so forth, so that the oldest child always has the most child support granted to them.
Now, if you do get remarried and have more children, that may change other factors that can come into play such as what are your tax liabilities? What is your health insurance premiums? Those factors may change your child support, but by merely having more children, that’s not going to lower your obligations to the oldest children because the oldest child will always have the priority in calculations of child support.
