What is child custody/time-sharing?

In Florida, we use the term time-sharing because the courts look at child custody as the word custody as maybe being somebody who is a prisoner. Time-sharing is the number overnights that the child spends with each parent and that’s how it’s calculated. There is no magic 50/50 in Florida. It’s everything is based upon what is in the best interest of the child.

The courts recognize that each parent is valuable to the child, and will make sure that each parent has time with the child based upon the child’s needs and the parent’s ability to comply with those needs. All those factors come into play but everybody recognizes that both parents are important to the child.
